Lifts and Elevators The Burj Khalifa is the world's first "mega-high-rise" structure with elevators programmed to allow controlled evacuation in the event of a fire or security breach. The observation elevators of the Burj Khalifa are double-deck taxis that seat 12 to 14 passengers. They move at a speed of 10 meters per second. The ride lasts 8 minutes from top to bottom or vice versa.
The elevator cabins are fitted with video monitors that display advertisements. The ads change according to the destination displayed by the controller inside the lobby. The images are displayed at eye level and can be seen by all who enter the cabin. The ad rate per 1000 visitors has been estimated at $0.000005.
There are also four passenger gondolas for use in case of emergency. These carry up to 24 people at a time and are operated by two operators inside the tower. The maximum travel time for these lifts is 20 minutes. In case of an emergency, passengers will be taken to the top as soon as possible.
The building has 1,287 apartments on 53 floors. Each apartment has parking space for a car. There are also public parking facilities close by with spaces for 400 vehicles. This makes the building the most car-friendly in Dubai. The aim is to encourage residents to leave their cars at home and use public transportation or walk to work.
The Burj Khalifa has 57 elevators and eight escalators to accommodate the tower's occupants and visitors. The service/elevator fireman's in the building has a capacity of 5,500 kg and is the world's tallest service elevator. It was built by Doosan Elevator Co. Ltd.
The elevator has three floors per stop and can carry up to 30 people at a time. Each floor has an area of about 1,000 square feet (92 m²). There are also four pedestrian elevators which can carry one person at a time.
The building's designers wanted to provide residents with a sense of privacy when using the elevators, so each car has two doors instead of one. One door leads into the car itself while the other opens onto a small private lobby on the same level as the elevator shaft.
The building's elevators were manufactured by Doosan Elevator Co. Ltd and cost $10 million (Rs 50 million) each. They can lift up to 35 tons - about the weight of 36 grown men - and cover a vertical distance of almost 300 meters in just five seconds.
The building's developers decided to use only European-made components in the construction of the elevators because they needed something that would be "durably constructed" for the high traffic levels expected in the building.
There will be 57 elevators and eight escalators in the Burj Khalifa. The top speed is 8 metres per second (26 ft per second). It will take about six minutes to travel from the ground floor to the top.
The height of the skyscraper gives everyone on the upper floors a clear view over the city. This means that there are no crossing guards or street signs at the entrances to allow for a clear view. Pedestrians should also use caution not to stand on the yellow handrails which can cause damage or fall off.
The building was designed by Farshid Moussavi and Mohammed Ali Jangchupoi with assistance from Bruno Serato. It was constructed by Abdullah Khadem Al-Shahani. The project cost $150 million to build and took ten years to complete.
The building has been praised for its design and innovation but also criticized for its impact on the environment. The construction required large amounts of wood and steel which would have otherwise been used in other projects. The result is that the building uses much more energy than expected. In fact, researchers estimate that it consumes 1.4 million kilowatts per year which is as much electricity as fits into about 50 large cars.
It contains 58 working elevators with a peak speed of 10 meters per second. There are 2957 parking spots, 304 hotels, and 900 residences in the Burj Khalifa. 4. The tower's gross floor area is 3,331,140 ft 2 (309,473 m 2).
The building was designed by Zaha Hadid before her death in 2010. It is said that she left no major project unfinished. The Burj Khalifa is the tallest skyscraper in the world. It stands 828 meters (2,716 feet) tall with its tip. The structure has 48 floors above the ground level and 1 floor below it. This makes the height of the building equal to that of four Empire State Buildings attached together.
The observation deck on the top offers views of Dubai and the Arabian Gulf. Visitors can see for 50 miles in every direction. They can even gaze out over the Indian Ocean where it meets the Pacific Ocean near Indonesia.
Construction on the Burj Khalifa began in 2004 and it took about 6 years to complete it. The total cost of the building is estimated to be $1 billion. It is believed that this price tag includes the construction of roads, hotels, and other infrastructure needed to support the tower.
Some people may know the Burj Khalifa as the site of the 2008 Olympic Games opening ceremony but that role is actually played by the nearby Olympic Stadium.
The Burj Khalifa broke a number of global records, including: The tallest current structure is 829.8 meters (2,722 feet) The tallest structure has 163 storeys (previously World Trade Center-110). The tallest elevator installation in the world (situated inside a rod at the very top of the building) can carry 12 people at a time.
It also holds the record for the fastest elevators in operation with each car capable of reaching 1,037 km/hr (634 mph), which allows them to rise approximately one floor every 7.4 seconds.
The observation deck is located on the 163rd floor and has glass walls all the way around it. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Dubai and the Arabian Gulf. The deck is equipped with several information boards detailing the history of construction of the tower.
Admission is free but tickets must be pre-booked through www.burjkhalifa.com. There are no standby queues at the ticket desk; visitors simply write their name on a list and wait until they are called forward to go up to the viewing platform.
The tower is open from 9am to midnight daily (except Thursday after Friday prayers when it closes at 3pm).
There are two different ways to reach the observation deck: You can take an elevator or walk up one flight of stairs at a time.
