It is usually the side that faces the street, although it can also be the other side. If the other side confronts the ocean, a river, or deep water, that side is sometimes considered the front. Also, the side closer to the intersection of two streets is generally considered the front.
There are several ways to tell if a house has been reversed. The easiest way is to look at its street address: if one reads across from left to right, starting with the lower number, then the opposite side of the house will have those same numbers but in reverse order (for example, 88-44-22). Sometimes they're even painted different colors to help people remember which is which.
Another way to know for sure is to walk up to the house and look inside a window. If you see what looks like the living room on the first floor while the second floor appears to be missing, then the house was not reversed. On the other hand, if you see what looks like the second floor in a downstairs apartment, then the house was reversed when it was built.
Still another way to identify a reversed house is by looking at its city block number. This number is printed on mailboxes located near the intersection of Main Street and Calumet Avenue in South Braddock, Pennsylvania.

Front yard, driveway, and walkway: These are all part of your street-facing exterior surface area. Anything within the front yard that does not have a fence around it is considered public space. Public spaces should be kept weed free and provide easy access for people to get in and out of their cars. This includes parking spots, loading zones, and any other areas designated by pavement markings. Items such as mailboxes, planters, and decorative posts should be placed at least 18 inches off the ground to avoid damage from vehicle tires.
Backyard, patio, and garden: These are all parts of your property that are not visible from the street. If you have a fenced backyard, only go inside the fence; otherwise, leave these areas undisturbed so you can enjoy them later. Some homeowners may choose to keep items like furniture, toys, and games in the front yard to make their home look more lived-in. However, if you want to sell your home, then these objects should be removed from the front yard.
Which side of the house is the front? Most people associate Monticello with the dome and the west-facing, columned portico seen on the coin. However, the dome and the West Portico are not the "front" of the house. Instead, they are called the Main House because that is where you go to find your way into the rest of the mansion.
The front of the house is actually the first area visitors see when they come to the house. It is here that you will find the main entrance with its large double doors made of Italian marble. To the right of the entrance is a small vestibule where guests can leave hats and coats. A little further back from the entrance is a tall hedge which used to be covered in flowering plants but now contains only a few spindly trees.
Behind this hedge is a large lawn with some more trees and then more lawn until it reaches the riverbank. The Main House stands between these two areas of grass - even today when there are trees everywhere else around Monticello!
On the other side of the entrance hall is a corridor called the Long Corridor. This hallway is so named because it is very long - it stretches for over 100 feet (30 meters) from end to end! It is here that you will find many rooms including: the Dining Room, the Library, the President's Room, and more.
Determine which direction your garden faces. If you have a south-facing garden with your back to the wall at the back of your house and the south is immediately before of you, you have a south-facing garden. Alternatively, you could stand in your garden and look towards the sun. It should be visible between the houses behind you.
If your house has been built recently, there might not be any signs that it has a south-facing garden. But even if it can't be seen from the street outside, there are still ways to tell. First, check the listing information in your estate agents brochure or on the website. If it says it has a south-facing garden, then that's good news for you!
However, if the listing information doesn't mention anything about the direction it faces, there's no way for us to know for sure if it's south-facing. But don't worry - we can still tell by looking at it!
The first thing to do is to check whether there are any solar panels attached to your house. If so, that's a sign that it faces south. There might be other things attached to the roof which would also indicate that it's south-facing, such as heat mirrors or insulation. But regardless, having solar panels on your house means that you can be sure that it faces south.
