Jay-Z bought the land for his mansion in 2003. At the time, it was valued at $5 million to $10 million. He spent another $20 million or more on the property before selling a portion of it in 2007.
Beyonce joined her husband on the mansion's top floor. The couple have three children together: Blue II, 6, and Titan, 4. She also has a daughter from a previous marriage, Destiny Rose, 23. Jay-Z is signed to Roc Nation, which is headquartered in Manhattan's Hudson Yards neighborhood.

Beyonce and Jay Z bought the house from music producer Robert Riggs. He paid $7 million for it in 2003. Before that, it was owned by actor Sylvester Stallone and actress Jennifer Tilly. They purchased it for $3.5 million in 1999. The previous owner was singer Diana Ross who sold it to Stallone and Tilly for $1.85 million.
Stallone and Tilly made some major renovations before they sold it to Bey and Jay Z. They added a movie theater, a recording studio, a gym, and a 3-story glass tower with an indoor swimming pool on the roof. The property also has a tennis court, a garden, and a stage where Bey once performed during her "Mrs. Carter" tour.
She moved into the new mansion right after its completion in April 2004. Prior to that, she had been living in a rented house in Atlanta while her husband was filming his movie "Dreamgirls".

Bel Air is a wealthy suburb of Los Angeles. It has a population of about 2,000 people. Many famous people live here including Justin Bieber, Prince Charles, and Sylvester Stallone.
