There are six opera houses in the city. At one point, Venice had six opera theaters contending for the patronage of the city's affluent guests. However, because the interiors of theaters were rich in combustible materials and the lighting was entirely relied on bare flames, most theaters burnt down at some time throughout their history. The last opera house to close its doors was the La Fenice theater, which closed in January 1997.
The oldest opera house in Venice is the San Giovanni di Duolingo, which opened its doors in 1637. La Fenice was built two years later and since then, all other theaters have been copies or adaptations of this original design. The San Giovanni di Duolingo was destroyed by fire in 1771 and wasn't rebuilt until 1823 when it reopened its doors under its current name: Teatro Apollo. In 1857, this theater also burned down and wasn't reopened until 1870 when it too became known as the Apollo Theater.
The Teatro Malibran was the first Italian theater to be built with permanent seating. It opened its doors in 1808 and lasted until it burned down four years later. No theater was ever built again in Venice after this event, although several more theaters were constructed between then and 1920 across Italy. The Teatro Malibran was replaced by a copy called the Teatro Sant'Agata during that time. In 1920, this theater too burned down and wasn't reopened until 1943 when it too became known as the Apollo Theater.
The ordinary traveler is generally unaware of this privileged view inside the interior of the Opera House's many music halls. Because the Sydney Opera House has six separate performance halls, it's difficult to have an in-depth look at the entire theater on your own. However, a few signs indicate which rooms are which.
The first music hall is at the top of the main staircase. This is also where you can find the reception area with box offices and cloakrooms. The second music room is located on the ground floor near the cafe/restaurant scene of the opera house. It used to be called the 'little theatre' but now it's known as the 'blackbox'.
The third music room is on the first floor next to the green room area. It was originally built for chamber music performances but now it houses large-scale operatic productions as well.
The fourth music room is on the first floor next to the blue room. It was designed by Harry Seidler and was built in 1973. It features dramatic lighting and sound effects.
The fifth music room is on the first floor next to the red room. It was designed by Peter Cook and opened in 1990. It features a rock wall texture and seating areas that resemble giant sofas.

The house is located in downtown Berlin on Theaterplatz and is part of the complex that also includes the Komödie theatre and the Operettenhaus (Operette House). This means producing new works and promoting those of younger authors who might not be as well-known yet but could become so.
