Only single-wide and double-wide structures with the same exterior appearance as you have been accustomed to for decades will be seen. Modular homes are still created in factories in the same way as prefabricated homes are, but the distinctions are significant. In fact, a modular home is actually two separate homes that are built side by out and then connected together.
There are several types of modular homes available today, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The three most common types are the townhome, the condominium, and the mobile home. Each type is discussed in detail below.
Townhouses are probably the most popular choice among first-time home buyers because of their size efficiency. Condos are becoming more popular every day. These properties are ideal for people who like to travel or who work outside of a stable environment. Condos usually consist of one exclusive owner who has a share in managing certain areas of the building such as the parking lot or laundry room.
A modular house is constructed primarily indoors in a factory-like atmosphere. The produced goods are wrapped and shipped to their new locations, where they are assembled by a homebuilder. Modular houses are residences that are constructed off-site rather than on-site. They include modules of various sizes and shapes which are transported to the construction site where they are joined together into one complete house. Modules can be installed almost immediately after being removed from the truck, allowing for quick construction of large projects.
There are two main types of modular homes: open-frame and enclosed. Open-frame modular homes are composed of exterior panels that connect with each other without any internal walls. These structures provide maximum floor space to user while minimizing the amount of material used. They are most commonly used for temporary or rental housing because there is no need for interior finishing such as painting or wallpapering. In addition, open-frame modular homes are less expensive to manufacture than enclosed modular homes. Enclosed modular homes have internal partitions between rooms which save on shipping space and allow for storage of materials inside the module. These properties make them good choices for permanent housing because you don't want to waste resources on something that will only be used temporarily.
Both open-frame and enclosed modular homes can be customized with different finishes and features depending on the needs of the end user. There are also several types of connections between modules including single lap, double lap, and ring beam.
The primary distinction between manufactured, mobile, and modular houses is how they are built. Manufactured houses are built at a factory and then delivered to the housing site. Modular houses are either built on a permanent or temporary chassis. Mobile homes are constructed on a trailer frame that can be towed behind a vehicle.
Modular homes are usually built by a contractor who will build your house in phases. The process starts with assembling the floor plan for your home on a computer. Next, the plans are sent to a manufacturer where it is turned into a 3D model. Once the model is approved, it's sent to a factory where the structure is built around the model.
You can customize your modular home by choosing different options during construction. For example, you can choose appliances that are pre-installed before delivery or you can have these items added to your new home later. You can also choose your flooring material and color. Modular homes are often cheaper than traditional stick-built homes because they use prefabricated parts that are shipped to the building site.
Mobile homes are manufactured in factories where they are put together with body panels, windows, and other components. They are then taken to a shipping yard where they are hooked up to a truck and driven to their final destination.
