The tower's spire reportedly reached a height of 525 feet (160 m), making it the world's highest building, surpassing the Great Pyramid of Giza, which held the record for over 4,000 years. It has since been surpassed by several buildings and towers.
Lincoln Cathedral was originally built in the 12th century but had to be rebuilt after suffering major damage during the English Civil War. The current cathedral, which covers an area of about 44,000 square feet (4,000 m²), was completed in 1092. The tower's original height is not known, but it is estimated that it was around 70 feet (21 m). Today, thanks to repairs over the years, the tower is only 30 feet (9 m) tall.

For more than 4,000 years, the Great Pyramid was the highest building in the world, standing 146.5 meters (481 feet) tall. It is now 137 m (449.6 ft) tall, having dropped 9.5 m (31 ft) from its peak. The Pyramid is also the largest construction ever built by humans. It has a base area of about 545,000 square meters (1,456 acres), and it weighs approximately 2 billion kg (4.5 billion lb).
The pyramid shape is unique among buildings for its ability to concentrate weight within its structure, thus requiring less material to build. This is particularly important for the case of the Great Pyramid, which is mostly made of stone.
It is estimated that there are not enough stones left on the Giza Plateau to rebuild the Great Pyramid. However, some researchers believe that metal tools may have been used instead. They argue that if we take into account the rate at which the Pyramid's height has decreased over time, then it must have been rebuilt several times after initial construction.
Furthermore, they claim that the original Pyramid was much taller (about 490 m or 1,650 feet) and used much less material than today's version. The reason for this is that over time the Giza Plateau became covered in sand which buried parts of the Ancient Egyptian monuments. The sand also washed away many traces of their work.

In May 2015, a survey conducted by archaeologists with the Egypt Exploration Society (EES) found that the Great Pyramid of Giza has been restored three times since its construction. The EES reports that the findings show that the casing stones on the outside of the pyramid were re-used during these restoration projects. The organization says that this is evidence that "the Pharaohs were not only rich, but also powerful enough to have workers who could be hired back again for further projects."

The Great Pyramid of Giza, albeit not strictly a skyscraper, held the title for the largest man-made construction for 3,800 years. It is now ranked as the third largest pyramid in Egypt and the only one inside a city limits.
All other Egyptian pyramids are outside of cities, in rural areas where there was enough space to build large monuments to the memory of important people. The Great Pyramid was built for this reason: to make sure that King Khufu's name would be remembered after his death. He could have had any number of statues made or buildings named after him, but he wanted to be sure that everyone would know who he was when he was gone.
The Great Pyramid is also interesting because no one is sure how they were built. Some say that they used slave labor while others claim that the Egyptians did it all by themselves. There are drawings that show parts of the structure being built over time but none of them show anyone actually building it. This means that it may have been done completely automatically or with some sort of automatic pilot system that we today would need computers for.
Either way, it's clear that the Great Pyramid is much more than just a pretty face.
