Yas Island is a man-made island, however it was not formed by sand-shooting marine boats. It was previously part of mainland Abu Dhabi, and as part of the Formula 1 concept, a strip of land—what is now the canal—was excavated. This allowed for more room to be created for hotels and other facilities.
The island now comprises three separate areas: Yas Marina, which hosts some of the city's most expensive homes; Yas Island Resort, which includes a five-star hotel and several other luxury resorts; and The Cultural District, which features many museums and art galleries.
Yas Island is connected to Abu Dhabi by the 111-meter (370-foot) Sheikh Zayed Bridge, which opened in 2004. The bridge spans the eastern end of the canal that runs through the center of the island into the Gulf of Oman.
Abu Dhabi was originally two islands joined by a causeway, but over time the area has been transformed by mining operations, oil drilling, and construction projects. In 2001, the United Arab Emirates announced a plan to build a large artificial island as an extension to Yas Island. The new island would contain a city with a population of up to 100,000 people. However, after much public opposition, the plan was canceled in 2003.
In addition to its role as a sports venue, Yas Island also has many other unique features.
Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Yas Island is the world's second biggest man-made island, albeit its architectural design is less remarkable than Dubai's artificial islands. It was created by excavating land from beneath a large freshwater lake, so it is entirely natural. The island now contains several shopping malls, restaurants, and hotels as well as some interesting sights such as a dinosaur museum.
Yas Island is also a major racing venue that hosts the Formula 1 United Arab Emirates Grand Prix each season. The race is scheduled to be held on November 3, 2014.
In addition to the grand prix, Yas Island has hosted events including the FIFA World Cup™ Qualifiers and the Gulf Cup. These events are not considered part of the Formula 1 series so they do not count towards the championship.
The island is owned by the government of Abu Dhabi which is based in the United Arab Emirates. It was developed by Nakheel, a company that specializes in tourism and real estate projects in the UAE. The island is located in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, on the country's western coast.
Abu Dhabi is a modern city with a population of over 500,000 people. It is home to many wealthy families who have their own private islands.
The circuit is the centerpiece of the huge Yas Island development, which is still in the works and is expected to cost more than $40 billion USD. Yas Island is 2,500 hectares in size and is located near to Abu Dhabi International Airport, around 20 kilometers from downtown Abu Dhabi. The project will include several hotels, a marina, shops, restaurants, and other attractions.
Yas Island opened with a bang on November 3, 2010 when Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton won the first race held on the circuit boarded by Mercedes-Benz. The track is also known as Yas Marina Circuit because it is located on Yas Island.
Have you ever wondered how much all of this costs? Well, according to Forbes, the entire project will cost about $12-$14 billion, not including land purchases or construction. That's more than twice the price of nearby Ferrari World!
Yas Island opened with more than 100 luxury suites and five restaurants, including French restaurant Joël Robuchon. There are also bars, clubs, and entertainment facilities such as go-kart tracks and giant video games.
People come from around the world to see the Grand Prix, which isn't really a secret anymore. But if you want to find out more about them, we'll need to know what kind of car you like best...
So, how did the islands come to be? Dredging sand from the Persian and Arabian Gulf floors, the sand was then sprayed and "vibro-compacted" into form using GPS technology for precision and enclosed by millions of tons of rock for protection. The result is a beach that looks like a sculpted masterpiece.
Dubai Island Resort is a community where everyone has a voice, ideas are celebrated, and individuality is appreciated. It is here where you will find five star accommodations along with world-class entertainment facilities and dining options.
The community is home to more than 9500 residents who live in large custom-built houses built on land grants. There are also many small shops and restaurants located on the island that offer a variety of food choices. Additionally, there are three large shopping malls on the island. One of them is called Mall of the Emirates which features luxury brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, and Gucci. Another one is called Dubailand which is an international city complete with its own cinema theater, museums, and sports facilities.
Sheikh Mohammed commissioned the Dubai Islands project in order to maximize coastal property. Dubai's palm-tree-shaped resort island built on seabed land will add 120 kilometers of beachfront to the city. The project also aims to protect the coastline from high tides and waves.
The first phase of the project was launched in November 2014 with a goal of finishing it by 2020. It covers an area of 20 hectares (49 acres) and includes hotels, residential buildings, parks, and water bodies. There is also a mall on the island called Dubai Mall Beach.
Palm Island is located in the emirate of Dubai. The island is a luxury hotel and residential complex with a large shopping center. It is being built by Dubai Properties for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the prime minister and ruler of Dubai. The first phase of the project consists of only 20 hectares (49 acres) but there will be a second phase that adds another 120 hectares (290 acres). The entire project is expected to be finished by 2030.
Sheikh Mohammed wants to make Dubai a global tourism destination and building this island is one of his projects. The island will have five star luxury hotels on it along with thousands of square meters (10,000 sq ft) of shops and restaurants. There will also be private beaches for residents to use.
Dubai's phony "World Islands" are being rebuilt 15 years after they were first shown. The idea to build 300 floating islands in the shape of a globe map was launched in 2003, but it was put on hold after the 2008 financial crisis. However, the project was revived in 2015.
The plan is to have three islands that will be connected by bridges. They will be located in the Persian Gulf, Caribbean Sea and Indian Ocean and their total area will be about 400,000 square meters (4 million sq ft). The price of each island will be around $150 million.
All buildings on the islands will be made of glass and most of them will be rented out as luxury apartments or hotel rooms. The rebuilding of these islands is expected to be completed by 2020.
