Today, it is divided into three lines: Steinway, Boston, and Essex. Available dimensions: 5'1" x 58" or 1 m 55cm x 147cm Satin Ebony, Mahogany, Walnut, Figured Sapele, Dark Cherry, Kewazinga Bubinga, Santos Rosewood, East Indian Rosewood, African Pommele, Macassar Ebony, Chinoiserie, or Hepplewhite Dark Cherry are some of the finishes available. The price varies depending on the wood used for the body.
The first line was built in Westchester County, New York, by John H. Steinway & Sons. It is named after its founder who also served as its president for many years. This is the original American piano maker. Today, the company operates as a subsidiary of Yamaha Corporation.
The second line was founded in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1872 by Charles E. Black. It is now known as the Boston Piano Company. This is the oldest American piano manufacturer still in operation. In 1985, Boston Piano merged with Baldwin International to form the Baldwin Piano Company, which was later acquired by Samick Musical Industries.
The third line was established in Essex, England, in 1865 by Joseph Dixon. It is now called the Essex Piano Company. This is the only English piano maker listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as having made the most pianos in one year - 1395 units in 1986. In 1987, Essex joined the Yamanashi Gensui Group and is now part of that group's Steinway & Sons division.
New Steinway grand pianos manufactured in Queens, New York, come in six distinct models and four basic finishes. Satin ebony, polyester-polished ebony, polyester-polished ebony with silver hardware, and lacquer-polished ebony are the possible finishes, with each rising in price. The materials used in their construction include maple for the body and neck, tulip wood for the soundboard and ribs, and poplar for the legs. A new model called the D'Addario & Stradivarius is being marketed as a limited edition piano that features hand-rubbed European walnut from select forests around the world.
The largest model is the Premier, which is offered in three sizes: 2-1/4, 3-1/4, and 4-1/4 feet. They sell for $195,000, $240,000, and $270,000 respectively. The smallest size Premier is only available with a flat black finish while the larger ones are available in either flat black or satin ebony. All Premiers have a double-cutter action made by John Bullard Company in Pennsylvania.
A second line of Steinways, called the Artist Series, are much more affordable. There are two models in this series: the Senior and the Artist. The Seniors are 1-3/4 feet wide and sell for $7,995 to $14,495.
Mahogany, rosewood, and zebrawood are examples of dark, heavy woods. There are several brass inlays as well as gilt metal accents/mounts.
It is a highly popular new choice for the furniture business, with a grain like Cherry and a hue like Maple. It is also suitable for doors. Plantation mahogany in the Philippines might be Swietenia Macrophylla or Khaya Ivorensis. It has a growth cycle of 20-25 years and is mostly used for indoor furniture. The wood is heavy and durable; it can withstand insects and weather changes.
In the Philippines, mahogany is most often found in houses built before World War II. These old houseswere usually made of masonry or timber with no other material used for framing or paneling. The walls were usually a combination of brick or stone and wood, with no metal involved in their construction. The floors were usually made of wood or bamboo with some carpeting added for comfort. There was no such thing as air-conditioning back then, so these old houses did not have any machines that cooled them down either. They just had windows to let in natural light and allow ventilation.
During World War II, mahogany was widely used by the military for weapons and vehicles. After the war ended, people started using its wood instead because it was much cheaper than other materials. Today, you will still find some mahogany furniture in the Philippines; however, it is more likely to be imported from Europe or America than grown locally. As far as I know, there are no major wood producers in the country!

All Lane Furniture products are made from white oak wood, which is harvested from well-managed forests.
