Tall structures that reach substantial heights are divided into two sub-groups: A "supertall" building is one that is 300 meters (984 feet) or taller, while a "megatall" structure is one that is 600 meters (1,968 feet) or taller. As of present, there are 173 supertalls and just three megatalls completed across the world. The tallest building in the world is currently the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is 2 kilometers (1.24 miles) high.
The height of a building is measured from its lowest foundation floor to its highest occupied floor or roof. If a building has more than one level of basements, cellars, or other subterranean floors, its height increases as each floor is reached.

The word "skyscraper" comes from the name of a building type first used in New York City.
