At 1.8 times the height of the Petronas Twin Towers, the Burj Khalifa remains the world's tallest structure at 828 meters (and has been since 2010). The previous record was held by the 798-meter (2600-foot) Taipei 101 until it was surpassed by its successor, the 834-meter (2743-foot) Trump Tower Chicago.
The world's first skyscraper, the New York Times reports, was built in 1881 by William Waldorf Astor at 40 Wall Street. It contained offices and retail space, as well as a ballroom that could be used for functions such as weddings or parties. The room was accessible from the street through a large glass window!

The building contains 88 floors above ground with a total area of about 545,000 square feet (50,800 m2). It is located in Downtown Dubai. The building was designed by British architect Zaha Hadid.
It was built by the Dubai Civil Engineering & Construction Company (DCEC), which was commissioned to design and construct it. DCEC has received worldwide recognition for this architectural masterpiece. The foundation stone was laid on January 4, 2004, and it was completed in only 10 months at a cost of $100 million (Dh365 million). Its height makes it the second-highest building in the world after the Shanghai World Financial Center, which is 1,551 feet (472 m) high.
The Burj Khalifa broke many records when it was under construction. This includes being the largest building in the world by volume, until it was outdone by the International Space Station a few years later. It also holds the record for the fastest building completion ever, with just over 11 months from start to finish.

Even though China has the most number of skyscrapers, they use them mostly for business offices, while Taiwan makes use of its buildings for different purposes including a hotel, a hospital, and even a museum.

It is also the world's most expensive hotel room. The record cost of a room at the time of construction was $14,000 per night. Now this price has been surpassed by many times over for rooms on the top floors of the tower.
The building is owned by the Emir of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It was designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster, who also designed London's Gherkin and Shanghai's Jinmao Tower. It took ten years to build at a cost of $1 billion. The opening ceremony was held on January 7, 2010, the fifth anniversary of the founding of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The building's height makes it the perfect landmark in this city where skyscrapers are constantly being built.
In addition to being the tallest building in the world, it is also the largest building in the world by volume of concrete used.
