The New Century Global Center in Chendgu, China, stands 328 feet tall, 1,640 feet long, and 1,312 feet wide. It is also the largest concrete structure in the world.
The building was designed by Pelli Cihat & Partners and its construction was completed in 2005. Its shape is an elongated square with rounded corners. The main body of the building is 120 meters long and 43 meters wide. There are three additional wings, one for each floor, that bring the total area enclosed by the building to 2,700 m² (29,550 ft²).
This makes it the building with the highest floor count in the world. The previous record-holder was the Petronas Towers with 28 floors. The New Century Global Center is also the first building in the world to be made entirely of glass panels. The walls of the building are transparent, allowing views of the city below. The location of the building is close to Beijing's center, so there is good air quality due to less pollution from traffic vehicles.
The building is used for offices, but it can also be rented out as luxury apartments or hotel rooms. It has been reported that IBM hires young entrepreneurs to work in the new century global center.

When it was finished in 1972, 1 World Trade Center was the tallest skyscraper in the world for two years, eclipsing the Empire State Building after a 40-year reign. The North Tower was 1,368 feet (417 meters) tall and contained a 362 foot (110 meter) telecommunications antenna or mast constructed on the roof in 1978. The South Tower was 1,344 feet (411 meters) tall.
In addition to being the tallest building in New York, 1 World Trade Center was also the second fastest building ever built, with an average construction time of less than four years. It took one year and four months to build the North Tower and three years and six months to build the South Tower. The Chrysler Building, which was completed in 1929, was the first building in New York to be over 100 feet tall and it took ten years to build.
The World Trade Center's twin towers were destroyed on September 11, 2001 when al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked several commercial airplanes and used them as weapons to attack the United States. More than 6,000 people died in the attacks.
After 9/11, there were discussions about rebuilding the World Trade Center. In 2004, construction began on the One World Trade Center project. When it opened for business in 2014, One World Trade Center was the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.

The world's current tallest structure, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, reaches 2,716 meters into the sky, and new skyscrapers are being built in Asia and the Middle East every year. China has eight of the top fifteen tallest skyscrapers. Shanghai's Jinmao Tower is the current holder of the title of world's highest building without elevators (the Taipei 101 has four floors with an elevator shaft).
Other tall buildings that have been completed in recent years include Chicago's Willis Tower (formerly known as "Chicago Skydeck") at 1,451 feet, New York City's One World Trade Center (1,454 feet) and Moscow's Federation Tower (1,820 feet). It may come as a surprise, but the United States isn't the leader in building towers - Canada takes that title. However, America does lead the world in height to base ratio - the average tower in America is about 80 stories high, compared to 60 stories for Canada and 50 stories for Europe.
You might think that cities near the ocean would have the most tall buildings, but that's not true - cities far from water have room to spread out and plan their skyscrapers better.
The world's tallest building, at 2,723 feet (829.84 meters), is the Burj Khalifa (previously Burj Dubai) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The second tallest building, by height to top of its roof, is the Shanghai Tower (formerly the Shanghai World Financial Center).
The third tallest building in the world is the Petronas Towers, which are tied together as the two tallest buildings in Malaysia. They stand 491 and 472 feet (146.4 and 140 meters) tall, respectively.
The fourth-tallest building in the world is the Pinnacle Building (formerly the Chicago Tribune Tower), which is only four inches shorter than the Petronas Towers. It stands 1,073 feet (326 meters) tall.
The fifth-tallest building in the world is the Jiulongshan State Office Building in Beijing, which is only three inches shorter than the Pinnacle Building. It stands 1,085 feet (327 meters) tall.
The sixth-tallest building in the world is the CCTV Building, which is only two inches shorter than the Jiulongshan State Office Building. It stands 1,095 feet (332 meters) tall.
The Kazakhstan pavilion, Nur Alem, was the exhibition complex's main architectural structure. This is the world's biggest spherically-shaped building, standing 100 meters tall from the ground and measuring 80 meters in circumference. It has a total size of 24,000 square meters. The complex was designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa and constructed by the Chinese company ZHAJI.
Kurokawa intended for the building to be both a political and a cultural statement. Its shape represents the planet Earth and its interior contains a movie theater, music room, library, and other facilities for visitors to experience art from around the world. The building was powered by solar panels mounted on its surface and it also used natural ventilation instead of air conditioning.
It took more than five years to complete Nur Alem and it was opened by Khazakhstan's then-president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, in October 1990. The complex was subsequently closed in 2000 when Khazakstan's government decided not to fund its maintenance anymore. It has been listed as an historic site by UNESCO since 2003.
Today, the building stands empty but it can still be visited through photos displayed throughout the rooms. There are also plans to make the building functional again but this has not yet materialized.
