A colonial-style home often has two stories. The living and dining rooms, the kitchen, and maybe some additional rooms such as a bath or powder room, a family room, a library, and so on are located on the first level. The bedrooms and baths are located on the second story. Some larger homes may have a third floor with more rooms.
The main section of the house is called the "main block" or "front hall." This is where you will find the front door, which leads to the outside world. Attached to this block are one or more additions, such as a porch, a bay, or a sunroom. These add to the living space without changing the basic layout of the house.

Sometimes people call these rooms "playrooms", but they can also be used for other purposes such as an art studio or wine cellar.
