The expense of building Some estimate that the monument cost 32 million rupees, which equates to around 53 billion rupees (US $827 million) in contemporary terms. Others suggest that the price was much lower.
The most commonly cited figure for the cost of the Taj is 32 million rupees ($530,000 at the time). But some sources go as high as 100 million rupees ($1.6 million).
Rupee notes had values that varied by denomination: 10, 20, 50 and 100 rupias. So even if all the money was available, building the Taj would still not be possible because they were too expensive. However, plans were drawn up with estimates from various builders who promised to complete the project within a specified time frame. So actual construction costs may have been less than what we know from the drawings.
Other factors that affect the price of the Taj include the quality of the stone used and the amount of labor involved. The original mason who built the structure is said to be responsible for using cheaper materials that could be found near the site. This may explain why some parts of the monument are more preserved than others.
The location of the city in which it is built also plays a role in its price.
The Taj Mahal complex is said to have been finished in its entirety in 1653 at a cost estimated at the time to be roughly 32 million rupees, which would be around 70 billion rupees (approximately $956 million) in 2020..

Washington Monument (1884): $1,187,710; estimated 2012 cost: $28.4 million.
A monument to the memory of George Washington was proposed by Congress on December 16, 1807. The first stone was laid on November 11, 1848, but construction did not begin until more than a decade later. The monument was designed by Thomas Jefferson and his architectural plans were used for the Virginia State Capitol. It is one of the earliest examples of an American neoclassical building. The total cost of the project was $150,000 (about $2.5 million in 2012 dollars). Half of this amount was paid by private donations, while the other half was funded by the federal government.
The monument was built over a period of eight years, starting in 1884. Its height is equal to that of the capitol building in Richmond, Virginia. The main attraction of the monument is its perfect white marble from Mount Vernon, which was originally planned as a replacement for Benjamin Franklin's grave which had been moved to Philadelphia in 1876. However, due to budget cuts, the marble was replaced with cheaper rock from Pennsylvania.
In 1894, after six years of construction, the statue of George Washington was completed.
The mosque will have a capacity of 30,000 people and building expenditures are expected to be 43 million euros ($57.4 million). "The project is quite demanding in terms of magnitude." said Sinan. "But I am sure that we can meet these challenges with determination and faith."
The foundation stone was laid by Sultan Abdülmecid II on May 11, 1926, and the mosque was completed in 33 months at a cost of 40 million gold coins (about $570 million in today's money).
The Blue Mosque is one of Istanbul's most famous landmarks and it's also one of its largest buildings. The name comes from the color of the local limestone which covers the entire exterior of the structure.
It has been estimated that the total area of the mosque is about 1 million square feet (90,000 m²), and that it takes 20 men to lift a single beam of the roof alone. The main dome itself weighs about 18 tons and it takes 10 strong men to raise it into place.
The complex also includes two small museums dedicated to Islamic art and architecture. It is hoped that they will attract more tourists to the site and help reduce the dependence on the mosque for revenue.
The Taj Mahal's revenue The Taj Mahal made 77 crores in profit. In addition, the monument's overall yearly average revenue over the previous three years was about 61.4 crores, not Rs 22.3 crores. As a result, the official data contradicts the erroneous information being spread.
The Taj Mahal opened in 1632 and closed in 1698 during the rule of Aurangzeb. It was then abandoned for nearly 100 years before it was restored by the government of India. Today, the Taj Mahal is one of India's most popular tourist attractions. Over 5 million people visit the site each year.
In 2016, the Government of India announced that the Taj Mahal will be free to enter from 21 November 2017 onwards, as part of its efforts to fight climate change. Previously, visitors had to pay an entry fee of Rs 10 for adults and Rs 2 for children. This decision was taken in order to reduce the number of vehicles visiting the site and to help protect the environment.
The announcement was made on the birth anniversary of the first Indian emperor, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. According to the officials, this move is expected to increase the number of visitors to the site from 121,000 in 2016 to 350,000 in 2018.
The average cost of constructing a masjid ranges from PKR 1,500,000/- to PKR 10,000,000/-. The price depends on several factors such as location, size, design, etc.
In terms of quantity, the cost of construction increases based on certain parameters such as number of rooms required, size of each room, etc. The total estimated cost for building a 20-room mosque is around $1.5 million USD.
Masajids are not built alone; rather they are constructed over several months depending on how quickly funds can be raised. The process usually begins with the placement of a non-permanent structure within the compound which serves as a marker for the perimeter of the site. This marker is known as a "dais". Once this dais is set up, workers begin to clear an area within the boundary of three-four hundred square feet. The size of the dais will determine the size of the prayer hall that will later be constructed.
After the dais is completed, the next step is to collect donations from people who want to contribute towards the fund pool that will be used to pay for the mosque's expenses. If donors do not give enough money, then their names may be removed from the list of donors for future contributions.
