1955 One Prudential Plaza, built in 1955–601 ft. It reaches a height of 601 feet, making it the tallest structure in the city when completed. It was originally called the New York Life Building but was renamed in 1992 after Prudential Insurance Company of America bought New York Life.
The Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower) is currently the tallest building in Chicago and the third-tallest in the United States. The 1,729-foot tall skyscraper is an office building located at 150 Laurence Boulevard in the Streeterville neighborhood on the Near North Side. It was completed in 2014 after being named for its primary tenant, the Sears retail store chain. Before it was completed, the Prudential building was the highest.
The Trump Tower is currently the second-tallest building in Chicago and the sixth-tallest in the United States. The 1,451-foot tall skyscraper is a residential high-rise condominium located at 100 South Wabash Avenue in the Loop district of Chicago. It was completed in 1980 by developer Donald J. Trump for $200 million with 50 percent rentable space. The Prudential building was originally planned to be twice as tall as the Trump Tower but construction delays forced the developers to scale back plans.
PNC Park The 32-story PNC Plaza, which is 538 feet (164 m) tall and was completed in 2008, is Raleigh's tallest skyscraper. It is also the highest structure in North Carolina outside of Charlotte. The previous record holder was One Wake Forest Plaza, which is 493 feet (147 m) tall. It was also a 32-story building when it was constructed in 1990.
Raleigh has only one other taller building, which is not considered a skyscraper. This is One Research Drive, with 652 feet (198 m) total height. It was built in 1975 and owned by Medical Center University until 2013, when Healthcare Real Estate Investors purchased it for $16 million.
The city's oldest standing building is the 1866 Raleigh Tavern, which is now a museum. Downtown Raleigh has many more old buildings that are worth seeing, such as the former Supreme Court Building, now a theater. There are also several new buildings being constructed downtown, including a 200-room hotel going up at 160 West Jones Street.
Outside of downtown, there is 1 major skyscraper. This is BB&T Ballpark. It is only 90 feet (27 m) shorter than The PNC Park, but because of its location away from urban centers, few people see it.
With a height of 1,121 feet (342 m), the 60-story structure is the highest in Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the fourteenth tallest in the United States, and the tallest outside of Manhattan and Chicago. The building was completed in 2016 and has 250 luxury apartments.
The Comcast Technology Center was designed by HNTB with Wilton Park Architects as the design partner. It is located at 1620 Linden Street in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. The site covers 33,000 square feet (3,025 m²) and rises 70 feet (21 m) above street level.
When it was built, the Comcast Technology Center was the second-highest building in Philadelphia and remains the highest today. The construction process was delayed for several years due to difficulties in securing the required zoning changes and environmental permits. The tower was also criticized for its high cost per foot ($750,000). However, it does include some green features such as solar panels on the roof that produce about 2% of the center's total energy needs.
Comcast owns two other major buildings in Philadelphia: the 755-foot (228 m) Prudential Tower and the 565-foot (173 m) Reading Terminal Building. Both were completed in 2003 and remain among the top 20 tallest buildings in the city.
One World Trade Center is the city's current tallest structure at 1,776 feet, followed by the luxury residential skyscraper Central Park Tower, which topped 432 Park Avenue in March and will reach its maximum height of 1,550 feet in September 2019. The Statue of Liberty is an icon of America and stands 328 feet high.
The Brooklyn Bridge is a world-famous bridge that connects the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Manhattan across the East River in New York City. It is one of the four remaining suspension bridges still in use in the United States and one of only two (the other being the Bayonne Bridge) that connect New York to another state. Opened in 1883, the bridge is 1,595 feet long and consists of 2,595,300 cubic yards of steel and concrete.
The ID Building is a skyscraper in Downtown Brooklyn, New York City. At 1,005 feet, it is the tallest building between Chicago and Washington, D.C. The ID Building was completed in 1973 and has 42 floors.
World Trade Center is a collection of three skyscrapers in Lower Manhattan, New York City. One World Trade Center is currently the tallest building in New York State at 1,071 feet, while the other two buildings combined are only 929 feet tall.
When it was finished in 1972, 1 World Trade Center was the tallest skyscraper in the world for two years, eclipsing the Empire State Building's 40-year rule. The North Tower was 1,368 feet (417 meters) tall, with a 362 foot (110 meter) telecommunications antenna or mast added on the roof in 1978. The South Tower was 1,344 feet (411 meters) tall, with its own 485 foot (147 meter) telecommunications antenna.
Both buildings were destroyed in terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. The fact that they were identical towers made them particularly susceptible to attack by terrorists using small aircraft. After the attacks, it was determined that both towers had been built with concrete that was only 70 percent as strong as that used in other major cities. This proved to be the main cause of their destruction.
The World Trade Center contained 2,711,483 square feet (250,000 m2) of floor space, which at the time of construction was the largest single-site building project in the United States. It took more than 1 million man hours to build, and it was completed in less than four years at a cost of $77 million. At the time of its opening, it was the most expensive single site of its kind in the world.
In addition to being the tallest building in New York, 1 World Trade Center was also the second fastest building to be constructed after the 1960s boom in skyscraping.
Chicago, the third-largest city in the United States, has 1,384 finished high-rise buildings, 53 of which are more than 600 feet tall (183 m). The 110-story Willis Tower (originally the Sears Tower), which rises 1,451 feet (442 m) above the Chicago Loop and was completed in 1974, is the city's highest building. The Trump Tower, currently under construction at 120 South Wacker Drive, will be the second-highest when it is completed in 2018 at 108 floors.
Willis Tower is the tallest building in Chicago by a wide margin over its nearest competitor, One Bank Street, which is only 109 feet (33 m) tall. The John Hancock Center is the third-highest building in Chicago, at 340 feet (103 m). The Tribune Tower is listed as the fourth-highest building in Chicago, but because it is not considered a true skyscraper it is not ranked by height.
The Willis Tower is also one of the most expensive buildings ever constructed. Its $750 million price tag makes it then-the highest priced building in America. It remains so today even after several other structures were built since then including One Lake Shore Drive, which was completed in 2016 and costs about the same.
In addition to being the tallest building in Chicago, the Willis Tower is also the second-most valuable after the Burj Khalifa, which is owned by Dubai Properties. The building's value is estimated at $1 billion or more.
