The distinction for heights in the contemporary age clearly goes to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is now the highest structure in the world at 2,722 ft. (848 m) - although this may change with the opening of Xi'an's Mausoleum of Mao Zedong later this year. The Statue of Unity stands 1,350 feet (411 m) tall and was built at a cost of $150 million, but it's not clear when it will be ready for visitors to see.
The tallest structure in the world has always been Burj Khalifa because its height was necessary to be able to include an observatory deck where you can see over Dubai. The Statue of Unity does not have this feature so it cannot be as tall as the Burj Khalifa!
