The Metropolitan Cathedral is one of the most recognizable Mexican baroque architectural structures in the country, with all characteristics of the baroque style constructed using Mexican components and materials. The inside of the church is worth admiring for its amazing architectural idea and appropriate use of gold ornamentation. It was built between 1681 and 1713 by Spanish architect Juan Bautista Martinez.
The first version of the cathedral was built in 1571 in Nueva España (present-day Mexico City). After almost 100 years, it had to be rebuilt because of several earthquakes that hit the city. The current structure was built after the great earthquake of 1720. This second version of the cathedral is when you can see the characteristics of the baroque style: large windows, a nave and two aisles, a tower, etc.
The Metropolitan Cathedral is also known as La Compania de Jesus or La Catedral Metropolitana de México. It has been declared a national monument by the government of Mexico. In addition to being a house of worship, the cathedral is also used for public events such as concerts and theater performances.
Mexico City has many other beautiful buildings including government offices, schools, libraries, and parks. However, due to the size of this city and lack of time, we could only include some of them in our video.
Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City The Metropolitan Cathedral is unquestionably one of the most significant structures in Mexico City's historical core. Aside from its religious importance, it provides a synopsis of five centuries of Mexican art and architecture. The cathedral was built between 1571 and 1615 by the Spanish architect Hernando de Escalante Fontaneda.
It has been described as the greatest work of its kind in the New World. The interior of the cathedral is decorated with paintings by Diego Rivera and other Mexican artists.
The exterior of the cathedral is characterized by its many sculptures and decorations. These include images of saints, angels, and kings carved by some of the best-known Mexican artists of the day. Some of these artists included Miguel Cabrera, Pedro Calderón de la Barca, and Francisco de Zurbarán.
During the Mexican War of Independence, an army unit commanded by Antonio López de Santa Anna seized the cathedral as partious of his campaign to capture Mexico City. After his victory, he had the cathedral destroyed to avoid its falling into French or American hands.
Following this incident, construction on the present-day cathedral began again under Bishop Juan Bautista de Salazar y Castro. The new cathedral was designed by Italian architects Giuseppe Piermarini and Luca Beltrami.

This marriage chapel was built in 1629 and it is known as the Capilla de Casar y Escritorio (Chapel of Marriage and Office).

Nowadays, the interior of the cathedral is lighted by natural sunlight that streams in through huge windows on all sides. Visitors can also see some electric lights inside the church. On the ceiling, there are many stars painted using traditional Mexican techniques. The sound of music fills the air as parishioners file into service at both ends of the nave. A priest celebrates mass according to the Roman Catholic Church ritual while members of the congregation sing along quietly. After the service, people spill out of the cathedral into the surrounding streets where food stalls sell tacos and tamales cooked in earthenware pots. This is one of Mexico's greatest attractions, and something everyone should see at least once in their lives.

Tolsa, Manuel Arciniega, Claudio Ortiz de Castro, Jose Damian Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City, Juan Gomez de Trasmonte (Architects) was built between 1568 and 1571 to replace an earlier church on this site. It is the largest religious building in North America.
The cathedral is a unique architectural fusion of Spanish and Mexican styles. It has two towers, one at each end, with a total height of 180 meters (590 feet). The main tower has 88 steps leading up to its roof while the smaller one has 7. Both have clocks installed inside them operated by hand. The original clock on the main tower stopped working in 1770 so replacements were made by Gabriel Rojas and Tomaso Alatorre. In 1873 the second tower was completed; it had been planned since 1870 but delayed due to lack of funds. The clock in this tower also stops working but it does not matter because there are other clocks around the city with different times. The main tower's clock is set 1 hour behind the second one so they never clash.
The interior of the cathedral is divided into a nave and two aisles, with a large square central space called the patio. This area is used for ceremonial events such as baptisms and weddings.
