The Willis Tower (formerly known as the Sears Tower) is an American pre-modernist skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. At 1,730 feet (541 m), it is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere outside of Asia. The building has 47 floors above ground and has been called "the last major work of architecture done by Mies van der Rohe" since its completion in 1989. It was also the first skyscraper to be awarded both the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the American Institute of Architects' National Design Award for Architecture.
