The oldest structure is the Eiffel Tower. The Burj Khalifa (828 meters) is the highest skyscraper, and the Bratislava UFO is the shortest (95 metres).
In terms of volume, the Eiffel Tower is also the tallest building in Europe (103 meters). The Burj Khalifa is more than twice as big.
The Bratislava UFO is not only the smallest skyscraper in Europe, but also in the world. It is smaller than some residential buildings!
Their difference in size is due to the fact that the Eiffel Tower was designed to be seen from far away, while the Burj Khalifa was designed to be seen close up. There is a lot inside the Burj Khalifa that you can't see from outside the building.
They have almost the same height (101 meters), but the Burj Khalifa is taller than the Eiffel Tower because it has more floors. It also has more space inside its rooms because it was designed to be much higher.
Another difference is that the Bratislava UFO was built in a very short time (about one year).
The Shard, at 308 meters, is usually regarded as Europe's highest structure. However, while the main body of the Eiffel Tower is only 300 meters tall, when the base and television antenna are included, the total height is 324 meters. The Shard is also much thinner than the Eiffel Tower.
The two structures have been compared by some critics because both are high points in their respective cities. The Eiffel Tower is more famous but many people don't know that the Shard has been built recently. Both the Shard and the Eiffel Tower were designed by French-British architects. The Eiffel Tower was created under the direction of Gustave Eiffel while the Shard is the work of Lord Norman Foster.
The two structures have very different appearances although they both belong to the same category of objects called "vertical sculptures". The Eiffel Tower is purely decorative whereas the Shard is used for business purposes too. The Eiffel Tower is much cheaper to build than the Shard but it costs much more to maintain the Shard due to its technical features.
People come from all over the world to see the Shard because it is a new building site. It isn't known how many visitors there were in its first year since opening but it is estimated that there are nearly five million tourists every year in London alone.
The Burj Khalifa towers above Dubai at a magnificent 828 meters (2716.5 ft) in height. It's three times the height of the Eiffel Tower and nearly twice the height of the Empire State Building. Aside from being the highest skyscraper in the world, the Burj Khalifa also holds six other world records. It is the most expensive residential building in history, its owner has said that he will not sell it, and it is predicted to remain standing for many years to come.
The Eiffel Tower is so famous that it has its own international day named after it: la Journée de l'Eiffel. This amazing structure was built as a monument to the French nation by designer Gustave Eiffel. It was first shown at the Paris Exposition in 1889 and has been changing hands several times since then; however, it has still never been dismantled completely. The tower is one of the most popular attractions in France and has become a symbol of Paris itself.
You may have heard that the Burj Khalifa is actually made up of two separate buildings called "the Tall Tower" and "the Shrub". Both buildings are owned by billionaire Mohammed Al-Abbar who spent $140 million on them. The Tall Tower is believed to have cost an estimated $100 million to build while the Shrub Tower only cost $40 million. People often wonder which one is taller.
With a height of 2,717 feet, the Burj Khalifa dwarfs all surrounding structures and is over 200 meters taller than the next highest skyscraper (Shanghai Tower, China). It is also the world's tallest free-standing structure.
The building was designed by Zaha Hadid before her death in 2010. The main architect was Arif Khan. It took ten years to complete the project. It contains more than merely offices: there are four restaurants on the 88th floor alone! There is also a hotel with 438 rooms located on its top floors.
It is believed that the building will not last for long because it is made of concrete which is prone to damage from earthquakes and high winds. However, so far it has withstood several serious attempts have been made to destroy it.
The building was built for the Dubai Mall but they decided not to put anything else other than the tower itself inside the mall. So, the upper floors are empty except for some shops and restaurants that charge expensive prices.
However, this does not mean that you should not visit the Dubai Mall if you want to shop until you drop; there are many famous brands sold in the shopping center such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, and more.
